DETAIL
The Schwalbe One family provides the right tire for the latest gravel bike trend. The smooth rolling Schwalbe G One Allround profile and Tubeless Easy technology make it a pleasure to ride over forest paths and rolling fields.
* Not all models are tubeless compatible. Tubeless options are designated by “TL Easy or TLE”
Schwalbe’s G-One Allround Gravel Tire stays on top of rough terrain with a larger volume, tubeless casing, and low-profile knobs. The OneStar triple-compound rubber provides excellent grip and longevity, which is only enhanced by Schwalbe’s MicroSkin Tubeless technology. The G-One’s casing features a vulcanized high-tensile micro fabric on the backside that creates an airtight seal, even at high pressures. It also has the benefit of adding more cut resistance all around, letting the G-One stand up to even the harshest adventure terrain with ease.
Available in multiple width options. 127 EPI casing. Claimed weight is 400 g (size 700c x 35 mm).

The Schwalbe G-One Allround is the faster of the two Schwalbe tires in our group test and proved to be unimpressed by attempts to cause snakebites or punctures during our lab testing. That extra puncture resistance is noticeable though: at over 500 g, the G-One Allround is one of the heaviest tires in our test. The tread is built up to be flat and consistent and like the Specialized Pathfinder, offers thousands of small edges to hook up and find traction on any inclination. However, the tire quickly reaches its limits when leaned into corners. While it handles predictably and good-natured at the limit, it can’t be pushed harder into corners to find more grip. Due to its robust construction, the Schwalbe tire is extremely stiff and offers minimum comfort or ‘suspension’. As soon as rocks or roots stand in your way, the gravel tire’s handling becomes unsettled and nervous. In comparison to the Vittoria Terreno Dry, which squeezes its way around obstacles, the G-One Allround just bounces off them. Bumped around it occasionally loses contact with the ground for a fraction of a second: a guarantee for zero traction. During braking, the tire is surprisingly secure despite its narrow dimensions and reduces your speed in a controlled manner. 1

PROS
- One of the few tyres available to fit the Cannondale Slate
- Gravel-specific tread pattern
- Tubeless ready
- Clears mud quickly
- Rides well on tarmac and firmer surfaces
The G-One Allround is designed for gravel and adventure bikes and for riders who primarily stick to wooded trails and gravel roads. With its easy-rolling tread and its Tubeless Easy technology, it is a joy to fly over fields and down fire roads. “The G-One has asserted itself in the rapidly growing gravel scene and attracted many fans,” says Peter Krischio, Product Manager Race at Schwalbe. “It offers enormous traction and grip thanks to its width and special profile. The large volume cushions the ride and simply swallows up bumps – and all this is even more true of the 70-millimeter width. The G-One Allround makes a very good impression even on the road – it is truly an allrounder for all surfaces.”2
CON
- Prone to loss of grip on more muddy sections
- Not quite wide enough for all the benefits of a 650b tyre
- Expensive
For balance here’s a couple of things I don’t like about the G-One Allrounds.
SIZE OPTIONS
The range of widths feels very 2016 when you look through it. There weren’t many bikes with the colossal clearances we see nowadays so the largest gravel width is 38 mm – which measures at 40 mm on my setup. I want to see more and bigger widths when the updated version comes out. Specifically in 700c I’d like a 43 or 45 mm, and a 50 mm. In 650b I’d like a 2.0” which I’d buy immediately and put on my Grove R.A.D which is rocking Hunt Adventure Carbon wheels. I did notice that the G-One Speed has newly been released in a 650b 2.0” width in tanwall option so hopefully that’s the first sign of range refresh coming soon.
FAIR WEATHER HEROES
Most gravel tyres are easily overwhelmed by moisture and the Schwalbe G-One AllRounds are no exception. Their tight, short tread pattern can’t get purchase when the surface gets sloppy. That’s rather common for gravel tyres. Anyone looking for something a little more capable should check out the Continental Terra Speed or Schwalbe’s own G-One Bite and Ultrabite.
South Australia’s generally dry, dusty terrain suite the G-One Allround perfectly. For me they’re ideal for 11 months of the year, only being unsuitable for winter slop. If they expand the size range they’ll be a little more capable in gross weather.3
CONCLUSION
Does Allround mean all-rounder? It’s not quite as simple as that. The Schwalbe G-One Allround is too uncomfortable and reaches its limit too quickly in corners to be able to have a say amongst the winners, and no amount of braking traction and puncture resistance can make up for that. However, if you ride mainly on asphalt and smooth forest tracks, you’ll get a good tire here.

Schwalbe G One Allround Review
Cass Gilbert
I’ll go all out and say that these tires have redefined what I believe a plus bike is capable of (enjoyably, at least). When folks have previously insisted, “Those bikes must be hard work on paved roads,” I’ve grudgingly admitted it’s true, pointing out that pavement isn’t the place where a plus bike shines, and that yes, asphalt stints can be a chore. But thanks to Schwalbe’s G-One Allrounds, I can now claim that a 27.5+ bike is one of the most versatile bikes you can own, covering everything from paved and dirt road riding to ‘proper’ mountain biking.
I’d consider them ideal for almost any long-distance dirt road tour, particularly where paved surfaces – of all qualities – are likely to play their part. Obviously the looser the terrain, the more you’ll benefit from a tire with a more aggressive tread pattern, particularly at the front, such as a WTB Ranger Tough. But for the vast majority of what many of us end up riding – namely decent forest roads, some roughstuff, and the inevitable pavement bouts – these tires are absolutely perfect.4

The Schwalbe G-One Allround is a good option to add a bit of traction to 650b wheels without impacting ride quality or handling on tarmac. But a wider tyre would give better grip and roll-over.5
